A division of Legal Assistance of Western New York providing access to the justice system to low-income people and other vulnerable populations who have civil legal problems.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM -
Provides legal assistance to victims of domestic violence including orders of protection, custody and support assistance and visitation. No fee. Call for an intake appointment.
Eligibility: Must have a referral from the Domestic Violence Shelter.

HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION -
Provides legal assistance to persons and families threatened with homelessness due to eviction, foreclosure, utility shutoff, code violations, or other causes including mobile home park issues and land contract problems. Assists the household in trying to resolve the housing crisis and provides legal case management services to help the household maintain economic stability. No fee. Call for an intake appointment.
Eligibility: Must be in receipt of a notice threatening loss of housing and meet income eligibility.

LEGAL SERVICES -
Provides legal assistance to individuals that have been denied SSI benefits by the Social Security Administration, including some disability help, public assistance, food stamps, and Medicaid. Also offers assistance to individuals being threatened with income garnishment or foreclosure due to bankruptcy and those who have frozen bank accounts on deposits that should be exempt. Offers civil legal advice and representation for individuals and families faced with HIV/AIDS. Additional services are also available to individuals diagnosed with cancer. No fee. Call for an intake appointment.
Eligibility: Must meet financial eligibility. May need to meet additional eligibility requirements. Allegany County residents must have referral from DSS for SSI services.

PRO BONO PROGRAM -
Offers assistance to individuals seeking an uncontested divorce where parties have been apart for more than 1 year and both agree to the divorce. Also provides assistance with wills and advanced directives. No fee. Call for an intake appointment.
Eligibility: Support and custody orders must be in place; must be low income.

VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROJECT -
Refers cases to private attorneys who have agreed to represent eligible clients without charging a fee, or at a lower cost. No fee. Call for information.
Eligibility: Must meet eligibility guidelines.
Volunteer Opportunities: Accepting help from individuals wishing to share their legal expertise, send a resume and letter of interest explaining the amount of time available for volunteer service.
