Steuben County Public Health & Nursing Services provides professional and caring services for all ages. Programs for you and your baby include prenatal care, newborn visits, immunizations and lead testing. Clinics include RAPID HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Disease testing. Our Certified Home Care Agency provides skilled services such as nursing and therapy in your home after hospitalization. Our Long Term Care program helps clients remain in their home and avoid Nursing Home placement.

HEALTH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS -
Offers general health information and programs including Health Fairs at various locations. Free blood pressure screenings are typically available at Health Fairs. No fee. Call for information.
Eligibility: Must be a resident of Steuben County.

HEALTH SERVICES -
Offers information and guidance to those who have questions and concerns regarding communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases. Works with the New York State Department of Health to monitor developing health related situations. Provides periodic clinics offering RAPID HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Disease testing, infant and adult immunizations and vaccines and blood pressure screening. No fee. Minimum fees may apply for some immunizations and vaccines. Call for information.
Eligibility: None.
Volunteer Opportunities: Clerical volunteers are needed for clinics, Medical Volunteers needed for Medical Reserve Corp which will be used in case of Public Health Emergencies.

HOME HEALTH AND SKILLED NURSING CARE -
Provides skilled services such as nursing and therapy in the home after hospitalization. Long Term Care program helps clients remain in their home and avoid Nursing Home placement. No fee for most services. Sliding scale. Must have a referral from a physician or hospital.
Eligibility: Most services none. Call for information.

MATERIAL RESOURCES -
Offers child safety passenger seats, bicycle helmets, and smoke alarms to residents free, or low cost. No fee, or low cost. Call for availability and pick up locations.
Eligibility: Must reside in Steuben County and meet income guidelines.

PLAY IT SAFE - CAR SEAT/BOOSTER SEAT PROJECT -
Offers safety seats, boosters and bicycle helmets free or at lower cost to residents. Also evaluates proper installation of car seats and boosters and proper fit of helmets to ensure safety of the child. This program is co-sponsored by the Steuben County Traffic Safety Board and Sheriff's Department. No fee or $5-$15 depending on eligibility. Call for information or submit application. Applications available on website.
Eligibility: Must reside in Steuben County. Must meet income guidelines for free or reduced cost car seats, boosters or helmets.

PREGNANCY SERVICES -
Offers programs for new mothers and babies include prenatal care, newborn visits, immunizations and lead testing. No fee. Call for information.
Eligibility: None.

EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM (EI) -
Provides evaluation and service coordination for any child suspected of having a developmental delay or a diagnosed disability; provides special instruction, speech, occupational and physical therapy to meet the needs of early intervention eligible children. No fee. Call for an intake appointment.
Eligibility: Must be a Steuben County resident, birth to age 3.

PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED CHILDREN'S PROGRAM (PHCP) -
Provides financial assistance for medical and orthodontic care for children with disabling physical/dental condition or chronic illness including evaluations. No fee. Call for an intake appointment.
Eligibility: Must be a Steuben County resident, birth to age 21 with a disabling physical condition or chronic illness.

PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM (PSEP) -
Provides referrals to the appropriate school district's Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) for evaluation to determine the needs of preschoolers with special needs. Offers information regarding services that may be available to children with disabilities who are age 3-5. No fee. Call for information.
