A locally managed, non-profit organization focused on effectively mobilizing the caring power of the community to help individuals improve their lives. The largest non-governmental provider of funding for health and human services in Chemung and Steuben Counties. This organization does not provide direct financial assistance to individuals.

Offers free tax preparation services. Program is designed to help local residents claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, state and federal income tax preparation is available at no charge, to income eligible residents. Taxes are prepared by trained, certified volunteers. Free electronic filing is available in most cases. This service is provided through a collaboration of non-profit agencies. No fee. Must call to schedule an appointment.
Eligibility: Program is aimed to help low income families and individuals.

Offers individuals online tools to enable them to file their own state and federal income taxes. No fee. Go to website and follow instructions.
Eligibility: Must be an individual or family with a combined income of $57,000 or less to file for free. Small fee applies for those with higher incomes. Must have a valid email address.

Offers new employee orientation to employees of United Way funded agencies. Orientation includes overview how to locate services, programs and volunteer opportunities in the community; personal finance skills and how to access health care or health insurance; and CPR and AED certification. No fee. Call or email to register and for information on next location and session date and times.
Eligibility: Must be an employee from an organization receiving funding from the United Way.

Mobilizes the caring power of the community to help people improve their lives through fundraising initiatives. Funds various grants to support health and human services programs in Chemung and Steuben Counties. UWST does not provide direct financial assistance to individuals. Also leads numerous initiatives within the community to address identified needs. No fee. Does NOT provide direct financial assistance to individuals. Eligibility: Must meet grant eligibility guidelines. Call for information.
Volunteer Opportunities: Help is needed to complete small administrative tasks, particularly help to complete large mailings and light office duties. Volunteer positions are typically available in fundraising and community impact areas.
