BRAND-NEW UNBELIEVABLY GREAT STUFF (BUGS) -
Offers a free pocket guide that describes services that are available for ages 13-20 in Chemung County. The guide is developed by Chemung County Youth Volunteers and the Youth Bureau and is distributed free as a public service of Chemung County. No fee. Call for appointment or walk-in.
Eligibility: Must reside in Chemung County and be age 13-20.
CHEMUNG COUNTY YOUTH BUREAU MINI GRANTS -
Offers grants to assist the local community in efforts to enhance existing programs or the development of new programs for youth. Programming should be either an educational, recreational or cultural project and enhance the Developmental Asset base of youth. Assets are positive experiences, opportunities, and personal qualities that all children and adolescents need to be responsible, successful and caring. No fee. Applications are available in December of each year. Call for additional information.
Eligibility: Must be an agency or programs that serve youth residing in Chemung County. Additional requirements will need to be met depending on grant applying for.
CHEMUNG YOUTH CALENDAR.COM -
Offers a web based calendar that provides youth and families one consolidated and convenient resource to discover what recreational, educational, or enrichment activities are taking place in the community. No fee. Access calendar on website.
DONAHOE AWARD -
Offers an annual award that is given to individuals who act beyond the ordinary requirements of their profession or daily routine. Any adult who is or has been involved in service to youth and families and who has contributed to the quality of life in Chemung County in unique, creative and dedicated ways. No fee. Applications are available in early February of each year and are due back by mid March. Call for an application.
Eligibility: Must be an adult who has been involved in providing service to youth and families within Chemung County. Call for additional eligibility.
JUVENILE ASSIGNED WORK SERVICE PROGRAM (JAWS) -
Provides consequences to youth currently in the Juvenile Justice System ensuring that the participants learn that there are consequences when poor choices are made. A collaborative program between the Chemung County Youth Bureau, Chemung County Probation Department, Chemung County Family Court and Children''s Integrated Services, a division of the Chemung County Department of Social Services. No fee. Referrals for this program are received from the Probation Department,Family Court or Children''s Integrated Services.
Eligibility: Must reside in Chemung County, be involved with the Juvenile Justice System and have a referral.
POLLY SANDERS SCHOLARSHIPS -
Offers a scholarship to youth who have made a unique or significant contribution to the community or who have overcome a major obstacle in their personal life. Two $500 scholarship winners are selected each year. No fee. Applications are available in all Chemung County high school guidance offices in early January,or call for additional information.
Eligibility: Must reside in Chemung County and be good school citizens and be able to stand as a role model for other youth.
PROGRAM EXCELLENCE AWARD -
Offers an award that recognizes the special efforts of local youth service projects, programs, and events. Agencies do not qualify for nomination; only programs and events will be considered. Nominated activities must be youth-oriented, and must have taken place in Chemung County. No fee. Applications are available in early February of each year and are due back by mid March.
Eligibility: Programs should be in existence for a minimum of 1 year before being nominated.
SUMMER COHESION PROGRAM -
Offers a six week summer educational, recreational and cultural enrichment program, which provides children a structured, fun, and rewarding summer. There are various sites located throughout Chemung County. Minimal fees apply. Call or walk in for more information or go to www.summercohesion.com.
Eligibility: Must reside in Chemung County and be age 4-12.
SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM -
Offers the opportunity for youth to learn and refine valuable workplace skills by participating in subsidized work experience opportunities and work readiness workshops for approximately 20-25 hours per week from July to mid-August. No fee. Call for an intake appointment.
Eligibility: Must reside in Chemung County and be age 14-20.
SUPER SATURDAY PROGRAM -
Offers a supervised, recreational and enrichment program. Youth begin the day with a free breakfast and then attend two workshops. Sessions are offered at specific times of the year. No fee. Call for information.
Eligibility: Must reside within the Elmira City School District and be in grades K-5.
SYNERGY AWARD -
Offers an award that is given annually by the Summer Cohesion Advisory Board to recognize an individual, group, or organization that has best demonstrated or exemplified the overall true meaning of partnership and collaboration as it impacts the Chemung County Summer Cohesion Program. No fee. Call for an application.
Eligibility: Must have made an impact on the Summer Cohesion Program. See application for additional details.
THE SPOT SCHOOL YEAR -
Offers a supervised, recreation program during the school year. Activities include Rock n'' Splashes, Guitar Hero tournaments, Open Gyms, Dances and much more. No fee. Walk-in.
Eligibility: Must reside in the Elmira City School District and be in grades 6-8.
THE SPOT SUMMER -
Offers a summer teen recreation program that is a park based, drop-in program. Off-site activities include field trips to New York Sport and Fitness Training Camp, Rock N'' Bowls at Rossi Lanes, Rock N'' Skates at the First Arena, Rock N'' Splashes at local swimming pools, golfing with the First Tee Golf Program and a day at Darien Lake Amusement Park. No fee. Call or walk-in.
Eligibility: Must reside in the Elmira City School District and be age 12-15.
YOUTH BUREAU -
Provides advocacy and support toward youth service goals and positive recreational development for children and families. Also serves as a central information and referral clearing house for youth and families. No fee. Call for information.
